Girls and boys
This activity explored the perceptions children have about their own and the opposite sex, and provided an opportunity to discuss stereotyping.
We thought back to last week's S.R.E lesson and the ways we can determine whether someone is a boy or a girl. We talked about whether there are things which mainly boys do and things which mainly girls do. We thought about clothing, school subjects, TV programmes, books, sports and hobbies. We had a fantastic discussion about stereotyping and spoke in particular about the fact that in most cases being a boy or girl should not stop them doing things.
The children then had to complete a recipe sheet with ingredients for girls and ingredients for boys. The children were fantastic in their ideas and really took on board the ideas of stereotyping which we had discussed in the lesson.
