30th October 2017
Back to school!!
We had a great start to the half term, as we introduced to a new book called The Firework Maker's Daughter, by Philip Pullman. First, we asked questions about the book to find out more about the characters - Lila, Lalchand, Chulak and, not forgetting Hamlet, the talking elephant. At the end of the day we painted our magnificent coil pots; go to the Photo Gallery to see how they looked.
Update - this week pages
It doesn't seem like yesterday when we were just starting the new school year - and look, we are in October already!
As we are writing diaries in English at the moment, I wonder if there is any child or group of children who would like to submit to this page each week? Writing a short diary style piece, which will of course be checked by teachers, before being published on our Y5 Class pages?
Come and see one of the Year 5 teachers if you are interested!
11th - 15th September 2017
This week we have been looking at recounts and revising the features. We will continue this next week and begin writing diaries which are an impersonal recount. To help your child, you could ask them to tell you about an event that has happened - making sure that they remember to include amazing adjectives and powerful verbs!
We began our History topic on the Anglo-Saxons by looking at some of the evidence that was found at Sutton Hoo, and we took on the role of archaeologists trying o identify who may have been buried there.
In Science, we investigated the properties of materials.
