Topic homework this term will allow the children to take part in the Chiltern and South Bucks Community Cards Scheme. This is a scheme which encourages year 6 children to safely get involved/engage with their local community. The children will each receive a card and will be challenged to complete activities to earn stickers for their card - this is a competition with several other local schools taking part. Some of the stickers will be earned in PSHCE lessons, some by completing homework tasks and others through children engaging with local event/organisations. All will be clearly explained to the children but if you (or they) would like further information please follow the link below:
This week has been a busy one, with practice SATs in the mornings (the children have been brilliant) and the afternoons being busy with visitors and swimming. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoon we had visitors in school to talk to us about Substance Abuse and Anti-social Behaviour. The children found both visits extremely interesting and both visitors were impressed with the children's thoughtful approach to, and questioning about, these topics.
Both classes seem to be relishing the competitive element of this scheme, so please do encourage your child to complete some of the independent tasks, if possible.
w/c 6th February - As part of, 'Safer Internet Day' year 6 learned about: the permanence of images posted to the internet; how what seems like fun to them might not be so funny for others (get permission); and that images can create first impressions that are not accurate. Some of 6Newton then preformed a drama in Friday's assembly to share these messages with the rest of the school - they did a great job.
25th January - today in year 6 we were visited by Equaliteach who taught us to THINK differently about how we view other people. We had some interesting discussions about who we'd invite to our dinner party based on very brief descriptions. We were all surprised, and made to think, when the identities of our possible guests were revealed. Have a look at the images below and see what you think, and how they might change the way you think.
This half-term we are using our debating skills to help us reflect on our own believes and to share ideas on how to successfully manage the situations we face everyday.
