Most children when they start Year 3 are not used to getting regular homework other than reading, so the introduction of homework is staggered in the first half term.
In the second half of term, children will be expected to read at home, learn spellings and complete a short piece of written homework each week. During the second half of the Autumn term, Maths homework will be introduced and will consist of structured learning of times tables and number bonds as appropriate. Additional Maths homework may be set in the Spring/Summer terms to help children prepare for Year 4. Parents of children in Year 3 will be given guidance on how to support their children in Maths (including times tables), reading and spellings at home.
