This week we explored the perceptions children have about their own and the opposite sex, and discussed stereotyping.
We had a quick recap of last week and the ways we can determine whether someone is a boy or a girl. We then extended the discussion to consider whether there are things which mainly boys do and things which mainly girls do. This provided a great opportunity to discuss stereotyping. Usually being a boy or girl should not stop them being able to do things.
We talked about clothing, school subjects, TV programmes, books, sports and hobbies.
The children then had to write a list of ingredients for boys and ingredients for girls. They had to list what they believed to be the main characteristics of boys and girls.
Next week we will be naming body parts.
