Set: Friday 5th January 2018
Due in: Wednesday 10th January
In Computing/ICT over the next few weeks, we will be looking at how computers can be programmed to follow simple instructions. We all use computers to help us to do jobs and we enjoy playing games on computers but we don’t always realise that small computers are inside many other things we use at home. For example, there is probably a small computer in your washing machine which controls how hot the water must be, how long to wash your clothes for and how many rinses they will need.
Hard: Write a short list of things we might all own at home that use computers
(HINT – they will probably have more than just a simple on/off switch)
Harder: Write a longer list including things that might be used outside our homes.
Hardest: Choose one item from your list and try to explain what the computer has been programmed to do to help us. (e.g. one of the things a computer does in a washing machine is it controls the temperature of the water)
