Friday 3rd March 2017
Over the past two weeks the children have been learning about different types of traditional tales. We have been focusing on myths and the children have worked hard to write both a creation myth and a quest myth. For homework this week we would like the children to write their own creation myth about an animal and how it got a particular feature. We have talked about Rudyard Kipling’s “Just So Stories” for inspiration, for example, how the elephant got it’s trunk, how the camel got it’s hump etc. When writing their myth, the children should remember to include adjectives, adjective strings and adverbs, to make their writing more interesting for the reader.
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you of the equipment needed by your child each day. As stated in the Year 3 information booklets, children should have with them daily:
Only one pencil case (flat)
Pencils (HB)
Coloured pencils
Rigid 30cm ruler
Rubber
Glue Stick
White board pens (black)
Sharpener
Water bottle
(Although not stated in the booklet, it is also advisable for children to have a pair of scissors.)
An increasing number of children are coming to lessons without this equipment, and we sadly do not have the resources to provide alternatives. Warnings and detention points will be issued, in line with the school policy, if a child does not have the appropriate equipment for their lessons.
Many thanks
The Year 3 team
